Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility. So that on the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen

Jesus demonstrated sacrificial love for us as “ the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11). The season of Advent is a time for kindness, thinking of others, and sharing with others. It is a time to love sacrificially as God loved us by giving us his most precious gift of his Son Jesus Christ.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
(1 John 4:7-8)

We thank you, O Lord, for your love expressed in the sending of your Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. We acknowledge that you are not an angry taskmaster who shows us love only when we succeed. You are a loving Father who will always love us no matter what. We will take the time in this Advent season to receive the depth of your love for us, and allow your love to heal us, transform us, free us, and lead us into the abundant life that our Savior has come to give us. Teach us this day to truly love one another as we follow Christ’s footsteps. Amen.
